Broncos vs Ravens Preview

The Broncos head back on the road in Week 8 after taking last weekend away from football during their bye week.Baltimore is the destination, where the team will take on the 3-3 Baltimore Ravens. Despite their .500 record, the team knows the Ravens are skilled in all three phases of the game."I just think they present challenges all over the field for us," Kyle Orton said. "We are going to have to bring our 'A' game for sure."In order to come out the other side still undefeated with a 7-0 record, the Broncos will have to be ready to take on a talented team in its own house."They're on their home turf," Mario Haggan said. "Over the years they've been a physical team, they've intimidated a lot of people going into M&T (Bank) Stadium, so we've definitely got to go in with our minds right and be ready to play a physical football game this weekend."The game, with kickoff scheduled for 11 a.m. MST, will be broadcast on CBS (KCNC-TV).

As we continue to celebrate 5o years of Denver Broncos football, here is today's Bronco fun fact:
In a game against St. Louis in 1997, Darrien Gordon returned a punt 94 yards for a touchdown. That's the longest punt return in Broncos history.

Catching Up

I'm sorry Bronco fans, High School football season is nearing the end of its season, and I've been very sick. When you put those two together you can understand why the site has been so slow this bye week. Here is a quick catch up on Bronco land:

Kern waived; Berger new Broncos punter. Good news, Spencer Larsen was back at practice. The Broncos need to start signing now, as Kyle Orton, Brandon Marshall, Elvis Dumervil, Chris Kuper, Ben Hamilton, and Tony Scheffler will be free agents after this season. Eddie was Royal named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month! And don't forget to vote straight Bronco in the AFC 2010 Pro Bowl Ballot! To finish up, here is some practice photos:

Running back Abner Haynes was the first player other than Lionel Taylor to lead the Broncos in receiving. Haynes had 46 catches in 1966.

As we continue to celebrate 5o years of Denver Broncos football, here is today's Bronco fun fact:
When John Elway passed for 25 touchdowns in 1993, he broke Frank Tripucka's 33-year-old record of 24. (Elway, in 1997, and Jake Plummer, in 2004, subsequently passed for 27 scores.)

Chargers Made Mistake

Here at Broncos Zone, we will always smack talk the Raiders, Chargers, Chiefs, and any other team that is in our way. We will not back down, not even from Phillip Rivers' lovers. And although many will disagree with me, and even I (I, who dislike more than anyone) have to admit he is a good quarterback. But the Chargers made mistakes with Phillip Rivers.
Mistake #1) In the 2004 draft they traded Eli Manning for Phillip Rivers. Top reason that was a mistake, Eli is a better leader, and quarterback, plus he has a ring, Phillip don't got one of those.

Mistake #2) In 2005 against the Broncos, Drew Breese broke his elbow after being sacked by John Lynch. The next off season the Chargers shipped Breese off to New Orleans and made Phillis queen of San Diego. Main reason that was a mistake, last season Breese came close to breaking records. And not only that Drew is a much more talented player. In 2006, Rivers was named starter, he had 22 touchdowns, the same year Breese had 26, and Eli had 24. Now you may say, "Jon, those are close numbers and Phillip has done so well." Really? Well, I'd rather have a record-breaking, Pro Bowl, Super Bowl winning, more talented quarterback than a QB that's almost as good Drew Breese or Eli Manning.

The Broncos game into week six 5-0, and they head into the bye 7-0! After a great second half and special teams performance on Monday Night. Leader Brian Dawkins went down early, but he came back after half time, and helped the defense that has not allowed any points in the fourth quarter this year! The Chargers only converted 2 of 11 third downs, and we sacked Rivers five times! Rivers was hot early on, passing for a TD to Vincent Jackson, but Doom and company stopped that. Elvis Dumervil had 2 sacks, and a forced fumble, he leads the NFL with 10 sacks. (Miami Pro Bowl.) Another Miami bound Bronco is Eddie Royal, doing something amazing on National TV could just get you to a Pro Bowl, but doing it twice, you're almost a lock-in. The Chargers fumbled 4 times (3 of the fumbles were courtesy of Phillip) and L.T. only had 70 yards. The defense stopped Tomlinson early, but he did have one or two 10-15 yard runs in the second half, but it didn't amount to much. At first our offense was pretty poor, not getting much done. But it didn't need to be as Royal kept us in the game early with a 93-yard kickoff return for a TD after a Charger field goal. Later he ran a punt back for a score. Our backs were disappointing, especially Knowshon Moreno. Knowshon ran 18 times and only got 44 yards. But in the second half Kyle Orton and the Broncos offense came alive. We've started to use Tight End Tony Scheffler as a Wide Receiver. And that worked with great success. Tony had 6 catches 101 yards, and a touchdown. Brandon Marshall was also was productive. Brandon Stokley also had a good game after a quiet game last week. Stokley had 3 catches for 24 yards and a score. At times our secondary looked a little shaky, and our special teams allowed a punt return for a score by Darren Sproles. But hey it was Darren Sproles, so I'm not to concerned about that. Overall it was a good game by the Broncos. Heading into the bye the Broncos sit high atop the AFC West. It looks like good things are in store for the Broncos this year. Go Broncos!!! The Broncos went into San Diego, and won 34-23! They pressured Rivers, shut down L.T. and Eddie Royal came alive, on special teams! Royal scored twice off kicks, as the Broncos improved to 6-0! More On The Game coming tomorrow. Good night, Go Broncos!!!

Crazy Weekend

Yesterday I was at my cousins house watching the Eagles_Raiders game (he likes Eagles, and I wanted Oakland to loose) but we were very disappointed the Raiders won! Now we know how.

That's not all that happened yesterday though. Two players will kicked out of their games!
And the Saints killed the Giants, The Patriots put up 59 points! And allowed no points from the Titans, the Falcons held off the Bears 21-14 on SNF. And the KC got its first win! Favre is now 6-0, and it's breast cancer awareness month. And tonight the Broncos will be on Prime Time TV against the Chargers, speaking of PrimeTime, Let's Go PrimeTime!

We Know What Happened

Coming into a game where they didn't really have a chance, the Raiders pulled off a win! You probably ask how? And how did they beat the Eagles!?? I have an answer, a source had told us some info from a meeting last week at the Raiders staff meeting. Reportedly, Al Davis wanted to kid-nap Andy Reid, put a chip in his head and control his mind and have him kick field goals and not play Michael Vick. Opposed to scoring touchdowns, and playing Vick on third down and running all over the Raiders. The staff did not approve, said it was to risky. But they were able to put a chip in an animal, and that animal helped the Raiders, and controlled the mind of Andy Reid, which explains the bad play calling. We have some proof to back it up.

In a 49-21 romp over the Eagles in 2005, the Broncos had two players each to run for more than 100 yards. Mike Anderson (126 yards) and Tatum Bell (107 yards).

The Broncos head back on the road in Week 6 after playing two consecutive games at INVESCO Field at Mile High. San Diego is the destination, where the team will take on the Chargers on Monday Night Football.
"A division game is always a little bit bigger because you play them twice and you are more familiar with them," Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. "It is only our sixth game. It is not going to determine the outcome of our season, but we know how important each one of these division games is going to be. We have got five left. This is our first one against San Diego and our second one on the road. This is an extremely important game for our football team."
The team knows it is in for a battle in all three phases of the game if it wants to make it to the bye week without a loss. The key comes down to execution.
"Ball security is going to be an issue. Blocking the blitz is going to be an issue. Finding some space to throw outside on the corners this week is going to be an issue," McDaniels said.
"We know we have got our hands full."
The game, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MDT, will be broadcast nationally on ESPN and locally on My 20 Denver (KDVT). Stick with DenverBroncos.com for continuing coverage throughout the contest.

Yeah Knowshon!

Voters on NFL.com have made their choice. running back Knowshon Moreno of the Denver Broncos is the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for games played on Oct. 11-12, the NFL announced Friday.

In his first career start, Moreno racked up 124 yards from scrimmage in Denver's 20-17 overtime win over the New England Patriots.

Moreno was selected from among five finalists through fan votes on NFL.com/rookies.
